In a recent Top 10 Richest Nigerian Hip Hop Artists list, the number one richest Nigerian hip hop artist found was Don Jazzy. Don Jazzy, whose real name is actually Michael Collins Ajereh, was born on the 26th November 1972 and is the wealthiest Nigerian hip hop artist at this moment in time. He has won multiple awards for his record producing, singing and song writing skills. He is even the CEO of his own Nigerian record label: Mo' Hits Records, which he founded in 2004.
Born in Umuahia in the state of Abia in 1972 and raised in Ajegunle city in the state of Lagos where he graduated from the Federal Government College Lagos. He had always shown a keen interest in music from a young age, showing great potential for singing and drums from the incredibly young age of 4. From the age of 12, he adopted the bass guitar whilst studying Business Management at the Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma in the state of Edo. At the turn of the 21st Century, he moved to London in the United Kingdom, following an offer from his uncle to come play the drums for the neighbourhood's church.
His first own piece of production work came about in 2004, with his song Tongolo for the Nigerian singer D'banj. He stayed close with D'banj too, producing his first studio album called No Long Thing which was released a year after in 2005. His other collaborations with production came from Wande Coal, D'Prince, Darey, Sauce Kid and Dr SID.
He is renowned for being a big spender with reckless purchases and show off attention pieces that he really doesn't need to buy. At the party of his friend Wande Coal's mother, he was said to dance onto the dance floor and throw masses of money all over the 50 year old. He threw notes until he got down to cheaper cash and then his expression notably took a down turn: He was frowning whilst Wande Coal's mother looked on, grinning.
