The song was released on the 2001 album ‘First Love’ and is the top selling track. Its increase in popularity has been largely due to its similarity to the music ‘Bella’s Lullaby’ from the Twilight move soundtrack. Many believe them to be the same but ‘Bella’s Lullaby’ was an original track composed for the soundtrack by Carter Burtwell. ‘River Flows in You’ has been featured on two other albums; ‘First Love [Repackaged]’ and ‘Wedding Essentials: The Ceremony’.
Yiruma is the stage name for Lee Ru-ma who was born in South Korea but raised and educated in England. He began playing the piano at the age of five and moved to London at the age of eleven to study at The Purcell School of Music. During his time at the school he participated in the album ‘The Musicians of Purcell’. He graduated from The Purcell School of Music in 1997 before completing a Composition major from King’s College London in 2000. Whilst studying at King’s College he released his debut album ‘Love Scene’ through the record company DECCA. Before graduating he also participated in a European musical tour and began to gain a reputable status. Yiruma made a historical impact for his country as he was became the first Korean artist to be invited to perform at the Marche International du Disque et de l’Edition Musicale (MIDEM) in Cannes. At the start of his career Yiruma released his albums in Europe and Asia but they are now available all over the world. Yiruma released five albums before deciding to give up his United Kingdom citizenship and serve his country. Now, he is a DJ for KBS1FM.
