DJ Casper wrote the song in April of 1998 taking inspiration from the Chicago stepping movement. On the following year, the second version was recorded and was named Casper Slide Part 2. By September of 2000, the Cha-Cha Slide: The Original Slide Album was released by MOB Music Publishing.
