Wallace's voice is provided by Peter Sallis, who is best known for his role in Last of The Summer Wine, in which he plays Norman Clegg. Peter was was born in 1921, and first began his role as an actor in the RAF during World War II. Some of his notable films include The Curse of the Werewolf (a Wallace and Gromit film), Hammer Horror Films and Tast the Blood of Dracula.
Peter has played the role of Cleggy in Last of the Summer Wine since 1973, and is still in the show today, making him one of the three remaining cast members.
As well as Wallace, Peter also provided the voice of Rat in the television series of The Wind in the Willows. The-made-for-television film of Wallace and Gromit: A Grand Day Out made Peter a hit in 1989. He also provided the voice for Wallace in the follow-up films The Wrong Trousers (1993) and A Close Shave (1995). The first film won a BAFTA award, and the other two films both won Oscars. The most recent film, Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit was released in 2005, and also won an Oscar.
