The old time Burlesque Show was a dance show in a auditorium with a stage and audience seating. It featured women in various state of undress. The law required that they not appear totally unclothed, but they always came as close to it as possible, using feathers, bubbles and veils as covering to tease the audience which was mostly drunken men.
The newer version of this is called strip tease, and they don't do it in auditoriums anymore, because of the expense, but rather at bars, where the audience is very close to the performers. There is a "don't touch" rule, but people can pay for a 'lap' dance, where on performer comes to the table and does a close body dance in the men's laps, but it is my understanding they still don't actually touch.
