Most importantly, never prop it up when not in use.  It could get knocked over and damaged. In humid areas the neck can even warp. Use a stand or put it in a case. Hard shell cases are better, they protect it from humidity, collisions and dust. Strap locks prevent accidents when you are playing your guitar. Wipe it down after each use with a soft cloth. Keep a cloth in your case. You can use furniture polish on it once in awhile to bring the shine back but be careful not to get too much on the strings or pickups. Also, be careful of belt buckles scratching the back of your guitar. It happens a lot and some people don't take that into consideration. Take good care of your guitar and it will last a lifetime.
