Any recordable DVD (DVD-R) or rewritable DVD (DVD-RW) should work. However, this depends on several different factors. First of all you will need a DVD burner, which is also known as a DVD writer. These can be external drives or built into a computer or laptop. Newer models will work with any type of DVD-R or DVD-RW. Older models may need DVDs specifically designed for movies, which will be discussed later.

The DVD player can also affect what DVD you will need. There are multi-regional players, which will play DVDs from other countries and will also play a wide range of other DVD types. Modern DVD players are likely to be able to play most DVD types, but older players are less likely to. Gaming consoles that play DVDs often will not play copied DVDs.

If it is an older DVD player or burner, then a specific DVD-R or RW may be needed. The blank DVDs that will be needed will say on the packaging that they are intended for movies. It should say clearly where it says that it is a pack of DVD-Rs or RWs. The other main problem is that most software for burning DVDs are not specifically made for burning DVD movies. However, there are a lot of DVD burning packages on the internet available to download. Nero is a very popular option which will easily be able to burn DVD movies.

The last thing to understand is the difference between DVD-Rs and RWs. A DVD-R can only be burned once. After that, whatever is on there will stay and nothing new can be added. RWs, on the other hand, are multi-use so movies can be wiped and new ones can be added.

Geez already.  Why so many 'minus' and 'plus'? Why can't it be more simple? I have no idea whatsoever what kind of blank DVD's to get to burn to my DVD burner on computer to burn movies off the internet.  Any ideas?  Will the DVD-R's work? If so, what are the +'s kind for?

Generally speaking, a dvd-r or dvd+r is ok. But dvd-r is more compatible than dvd+r. I personally use Wondershare Video to DVD Burner to burn videos and movies to DVD and it works pretty well for me.
