In the days of classic rock and roll, a lot of rockers passed on the offer of using their songs for TV commercials, simply because they could not, in those times, relate to their songs being used to sell commercial products. However, as the cult Dylan song says, 'The times, they are a-changing…', and today, you can see musicians aligning their songs with TV commercials. Randy Bachman of The Guess Who recently signed over the rights to his song 'Takin' Care of Business' for a TV commercial for Office Depot.
There are others who have joined this bandwagon as well. One very famous name to throw his weight behind this kind of commercialization of songs is Bob Dylan himself. His 1997 track Love Sick was selected by lingerie giant Victoria's Secret for a TV commercial. The ad also features the 62-year old himself, with his face appearing between shots of VS models. While this is the first time, in a career spanning over 40 years, that Dylan has agreed to appear for a commercial, this is definitely not the first time his song is being used in a commercial. In 1996, his song 'The Times They are A-Changin' was the track for a Bank of Montreal commercial.
