Singer and actor Alvin Stardust was bon in September 1942. He was born in London and his real name is Bernard William Jewry.
At a young age, he moved to Mansfield in Nottinghamshire and made his debut on stage in pantomime aged 4.
With his backing group The Fentones, he had several UK hit singles. During this time he was known as Shane Fenton and their musical style was based on that of The Shadows.
When he changed his name to Alvin Stardust in the early 1970s, he tried to cash in on the glam rock era of music. 7 top ten successes followed.
He then moved into musical theatre with spells in Godspell, David Copperfield – The Musical, and The Butlin Story.
In 2005, he starred in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and remains a popular performer with plenty of television appearances and tours.
