Dr. Martin Cooper was born in Chicago on December 26, 1928. He used to work for Motorola as the Corporate Director of Research and Development. He is still alive and is presently the CEO for the company, Arraycom. This company works for the improvement of wireless technology.
Dr. Cooper is considered to be the inventor of the Mobile Cell Phone. He research the idea of a mobile cellular phone and according to himself he was inspired by Captain Kirk of Star Trek talking in his communicator.
Dr. Martin Cooper made the first phone call from a mobile cellular phone in April 1973. He made the call from a road in New York and the call was made to his all time rival, Joel Engel. Joel Engel, at that time, was the head of Research at a rival company called Bell Labs.
Dr. Cooper has graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He has a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineer and a Master's degree in the same. He worked for Motorola for 29 years. He joined Motorola in the year 1954 as a research engineer. He climbed up the ladder gradually. He was promoted to the post of corporate officer in 1969. Later on, in 1977, he became the vice president and the General Manager of the Communications Systems Division. He was founder of the Cellular Business Systems, Inc. (short: CBSI). The Cellular business Systems Inc. was later acquired by Cincinnati Bell
