Brief Encounter's Plot
The two central characters, housewife Laura Jesson and doctor Alec Harvey, happen upon each other in chance meeting in a railway station tea room.
A deep love affair develops between the two as they continue to meet at the station, despite them both being married. Eventually, however, middle class societies deeply moral rules come into play and they realise that their relationship must end.
Brief Encounter's Background
Brief Encounter is based on the one act play Still Life by British playwright Noel Coward. Coward also wrote the screenplay for the film, which was released in 1945.
