The names of the original members of Westlife are: Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, Shane Filan and Bryan McFadden, but McFadden left the group after six years in 2004 so that he could spend more time with his family.
Westlife is the only group in either British or Irish history to have their first seven singles go straight to number one. Their phenomenal success means that they have sold more than 44 million records throughout the world, though they have only ever had one hit in the United States.
Originally, Westlife were signed by Simon Cowell, but they are now managed by Louis Walsh. As far as Number One singles goes, they are currently tying with Cliff Richard in third place, beaten only by Elvis Presley and The Beatles.
Even they are still termed as a boy band, the Westlife members are all in their thirties and all in long term relationships, though many of their fans wish that they weren’t!
As with any successful band where one member has left, regardless of the amount of time that has passed there is always speculation as to whether they can be reunited. The current members of Westlife don’t believe that this is an option for them; Brian McFadden was not happy with the way things were going with the band and wanted out. It is as simple as that. There were no huge bust ups or rows within the band, like there was with Robbie Williams and Take That, so there will be no opportunity for a grand reconciliation.
Nicky, however, is a lone voice with an opposing view to this opinion; he would quite like to see a return of McFadden and won’t rule out the possibility that it may happen at some point.
