Though the results of some studies show that children who grow up with only one parent are more likely to be poorer and have less opportunities, there are a number of examples that prove this theory wrong.
There are a number of well-known people who have grown up in single parent households and a desire to succeed and achieve in the face of adversity and whilst growing up surrounded by difficulties can often be given as a reason for this. One of the most well-known and notable examples of this is current US President Barack Obama, who was brought up solely by his mother after his father left the family shortly after his birth.
