Kilmarnock has notable people from almost every field. Some of the famous people from Kilmarnock are William and John Sloane, founders of W. & J. Sloane in New York City. In the field of sports, Margaret Mc Dowall, who is the member of the Scottish Swimming team and also brought glory to her country by winning the silver medal at Helsinki Olympics, held in the year 1952.

Some of the other renowned personalities are William McIlvanney, a famous writer and Kirsty Wark, who was an excellent television presenter and a journalist. A politician, biologist and noble peace prize winner, Sir John Boyd Orr, also comes from this large burgh. In the field of music, there is James Johnston, who is the bass player Biffy Clyro as well as, Ben Johnston, who is the drummer of Biffy Clyro. The well known Lionheart, Scottish professional wrestler Adrian McCallum also hails from Kilmarnock. The famous serial, "Whose Line is it Anyway?" that made audience glue to its TV with the fantastic performance by Scottish Canadian comedian Colin Mochrie, was born and brought up in this very place.
