Otto Kilcher has made most of his money being a "master mechanic", inheriting a ranch which he also runs, and operates, a boat transportation service.
When the Discovery channel decided to turn him and his family into an excellent reality TV show this only added to the family wealth. Otto is estimated to be worth $4 million and counting.
It is believed the Kilcher clan also own a substantial slice of land in Alaska, and it is interesting that the have stayed true to their roots and continued to enjoy their frontier lifestyle on the homestead in Alaska rather than use their great wealth to relocate to a more "luxurious" city.
The family also has routes in the "entertainment business", with the matriarch Ruth Kilcher originally a musician and poet.
She sadly passed away, but her daughter Jewel (who does not have much to do with the Discovery Channel TV show featuring the Kilchers) is a musician in her own right.
