American film actor John Wayne (born Marion Morrison) starred in 185 films. He also directed five and produced 21 over the course of his long career, which spanned from 1926 to 1976.  Even now, years after his death, Wayne is still widely considered a cultural icon, and is best known for his roles in Western films, for playing war heroes and for representing American social and cultural values.

I wouldn't say that J. Wayne actually MADE 171 Movies. In many movies listed on imdb.com he was just an uncredited extra, so he didn't really act in it (although he was in it). I guess that he really acted in approximately 130 movies.

Didn't John Wayne play one of the Roman Soldiers in the movie the "Robe".  It seems as though I remember him at the very end of the movie next to the cross that Jesus was on saying "this was truly the son of God".  Am I right?
