Ben-Hur, (1959) Titanic, (1997) and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (2003) are all tied for the maximum number of Oscar Awards. They received 11 Oscars each. All three movies won the coveted Best Picture category. The maximum number of Oscar nominations was achieved by Titanic and All About Eve (1950). They received 14 nominations each. All About Eve won six Oscars.

In the most recent 2006 Academy Awards Ceremony, four films tied for the most Oscars: Brokeback Mountain, Crash, King Kong and Memoirs of a Geisha. Each one three Oscars.

Nominations for this year's Oscars will be announced on 23rd January. Prestigious as they are, Oscars are not always telling of a film's more long-term success. The famous film Citizen Kane did not win Best Picture, although it received three Oscars in other categories.

Oscar Award winners and their heirs are legally required not to sell the statuette without first offering to sell it back to the Academy for $1.00.
