There were two actors who played the character of Joey Boswell in the BBC sticom Bread.
Bread was written by Carla Lane and shown on the BBC from 1986 until 1991. It was based around the Boswell family in Liverpool as they tried to make ends meet and make their way through life in the Thatcher era of Britain.
Joey was the eldest of the Boswell kids who dressed smartly, contributed large sums of money to the family kitty even though he had no obvious form of income ad had an on-off relationship with a girl called Roxy. He seemed the stable one of the family who helped get the others out of various difficult situations.
The original actor who played Joey was Peter Howitt. He was born in 1967 in Manchester and Bread was his first major role. He played Joey for the first 4 series before moving on to other acting roles. He has featured in several films as both actor and director including Johnny English in 2003 and Laws of Attraction in 2004.
Graham Bickley played the part in the final 3 series. He has worked in the West End in many different shows including Tateh in Ragtime for which he received a Laurence Oliver Award. His other shows have included Peter Pan, Evita, Guys and Dolls and On The Town.
