Television, music and movies all have an impact on people's lives and can influence our minds both consciously and sub-consciously.
Usually people wake up and check the TV news or newspaper before going to work, and then make their decisions and assumptions based on the information that they have received from those sources. An average person simply does not have the time to properly analyse every aspect of the information they take in, instead we sometimes regard what television, music or films tell us as the absolute truth.
- In recent years all three mediums have promoted the idea of a "perfect" human image - people are more concerned about their weight and appearance than perhaps they ever were before.
- Television and radio commercials can all sub-consciously influence our decisions, without us even realising!
- These mediums can have a negative impact on people. Watching violent television programs, music videos or films can lead to the increase of violent crime in society, especially in young people who are at the most impressionable stages of their lives.
- Music can be very influential on a person's mood. Slow, sombre or melancholy music can relax us or make us feel down, whereas a fast-paced song can pump a person up and get their adrenaline flowing.
- The same principles apply to films which try to promote an aesthetic within the mind of the viewer, which could lead to influencing their thoughts in everyday life.
